• A Northern Valley is a long-term photographic series and survey that documents the lives of immigrated communities within the agricultural regions of Napa Valley. Framed through agricultural scenes, the series examines the landscape of viticultural areas alongside the presence of the Mayacamas and Vaca mountain ranges that surround the valley floor. Centering primarily Hispanic and Native subjects, the work employs large-scale black and white pigment prints to present a contemporary visual document of multiple generations of immigrated communities within the Northern California landscape. A Northern Valley is also sustained through intimate documentation of the passing of Daniel’s grandfather, an immigrant and vintner, explored through an interest of the role of Christianity as a set of ideals instilled in immigrant communities.
